Frequently asked questions

What patients usually want to know first

Is SPRAVATO® the same as IV ketamine?

No. SPRAVATO® contains esketamine and is an FDA-approved prescription nasal spray for specific depressive conditions. IV ketamine is a different treatment and is used off-label for depression.

How often is treatment given?

For treatment-resistant depression, the labeled schedule generally begins twice weekly for four weeks, then decreases based on response. Your actual schedule is individualized by your prescriber.

Can I drive myself home?

No. You must arrange transportation home after every treatment and should not drive or operate machinery until the next day after a restful sleep.

Will insurance cover SPRAVATO®?

Many plans cover SPRAVATO® for eligible patients, but most require prior authorization and documentation of previous treatments. Verification is not a guarantee of payment.

Will I feel better after the first treatment?

Responses vary. Some patients notice changes earlier, while others require multiple treatments before benefit can be assessed. Improvement cannot be promised.

Can SPRAVATO® be taken at home?

No. It must be administered in a certified healthcare setting under direct observation, followed by at least two hours of monitoring.
